Dogs of War eBook Bradley Convissar

4 3/4 stars

I'm not a person who normally likes ghost stories. They tend to be silly or just gory/scary for no reason. I also thought only Neil Gaiman could write a good ghost story followed by Stephen King. Now Neil is followed very closely in my mind by Bradley Convissar.

Why? Not only is this a ghost story set in modern times, it has a message. Like the old Twilight Zones and Star Trek:TOS, it makes you think and feel. This is the second story that I've read by BC that affected me after I put it down and I couldn't go on to read another book. As you can tell, I'm a cat person, but these dogs...if you're a dog person...read it! You will be touched. I promise.

Why 4 3/4 stars? The title. I judge a book by it's cover and title. I passed this book up for the longest time without looking at it (I know what assume means) and thought it was literally a war book. It brought to mind Iraq and Viet Nam. So, I dropped a 1/4 only for that reason. I'm sorry that I did.

It's a great story.

Dogs of War eBook Bradley Convissar Reviews

Scary!
The book is fairly well written and an easy read.
I am not a big fan of mystical, supernatural stories.
I guess ghost come in all shapes and sizes. Sacrifices for the greater good do also. Worth the read for an original story about mans best friend.Bradley Convissar has certainly caught my intrest.
I enjoy reading anything about dogs and this one was no exception. There was some violence and a lot of mystery.
Very enjoyable story with solid narration from the main character. It features an interesting plot, with a bit of weakness in the details at a few points, which is why I rated this as four stars rather than five.

Convissar can certainly write. This book is obviously edited and formatted with care. Thank you!
A little while ago, I interviewed Brad Convissar about his 25,000 word stand alone novella, Dogs of War. Dogs of War is a horror story, the story of ghost dogs and a revenge they want to take on someone who's hurt - and killed - them. This is a most unusual story, and it actually grips you from the very start. I read it in one go, as I wanted to know the ending straight after reading the first page. I am not a dog person, but I loved the dogs in this story, which takes you to weird places... I won't say more, except that it's a great, unusual, quite brutal novella about justice, fate and reasons for living.

Here's a synopsis by Brad "After divorcing his wife of two years, Gary Lettner thinks he has found the perfect house for himself and Molly, his eight-year-old dachshund. But when the throats of the dead begin to cry out in a voice that only Molly can hear, and when evidence of past atrocities committed in his new home begin to surface, Gary finds himself an unlikely participant in a brutal quest for vengeance."
Looking for a different kind of ghost story? This is the one for you. I don't remember how I found this book but when I started reading it I almost stopped because I was thinking it was going to ridiculous. A house with a dark history, many dogs buried in the backyard, ghost dogs in the back yard at the full moon, and the wiener dog mating with them. At this point I was ½ way through the book and figured I'd finish it because my curiosity was just eating at me. Glad I did finish it. Although this is one of the stranger books I've ever read, it deals with the very real horrors of dog fighting and how cruel man really is. And I'll admit, I did cry at the end. It's a dog story!
